The Dewy Makeup Look… We all want it, but few can fake it. Let’s face it, you can’t achieve the dewy makeup look with dry, neglected skin. But don’t go overboard with the moisturizing products, since there’s a fine line between dewy skin and a shiny face. A good trick is to powder your face with an eyeshadow blending brush instead of a traditional powder brush. This way, you can focus on powdering the areas that tend to shine: the side of your nostrils, tip of your nose, your upper lip, chin, between your eyes and the top of your forehead; allowing the rest of your dewy face to glow through. See the following tips on how to achieve dewy skin, before applying your minimal amount of concealer and foundation for the dewy makeup look.
1. Exfoliate All Over: Whether you use a peel, scrub, or glycolic-infused cleanser, nothing helps plump up dull skin like sloughing off dead skin cells. Try to exfoliate in one way or another at least twice a week to keep your complexion looking fresh.
2. Make It Soft: Get rid of unwanted upper lip and other body hair. Try and go for a product with almond oil and vitamin E to turn your skin extra-soft.
3. Hydrate Your Skin: Use a hydrating maskHere’s one step that gets skipped far too often. Even if you never forget to apply moisturizer, worship night cream, and practically bathe in serum, you’re skin still needs the special kind of TLC that can only come from a hydrating mask. Why? Think of it like this: even if you eat relatively healthy you still probably need to take vitamins. Well, a mask once a week is an intense, concentrated dose of all the medicines (antioxidants, vitamins, and acids) your skin needs in one sitting. Opt for a brightening one, which will instantly give skin a natural glow.
4. Try A Face Oil: Don’t be afraid of face oils! You may think that they’ll turn your T-zones into an oil slick, but a little goes a long way…just a dab of face oil mixed in with your foundation to get an even, beautiful complexion — without that dry, cakey effect.
5. Swipe On A Highlighter: To give your complexion one last (unnaturally) dewy boost, layer on a highlighter at the last touch. Swipe and dab your highlighter product of choice onto the highest planes of the face (think the places touched by light first): bridge of nose, cheekbones, brow bone, and chin, and use your finger to gently blend into skin.
Don’t try and fake it ’til you make it. What’s really beautiful about the dewy skin look is that it looks like a natural glow is coming from within your complexion, not from on top. Remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. It’s a golden rule for natural, healthily dewy skin, without the extra help of makeup.
