Here is a list of our favorite 3 trends from the recent Fall 2014 NYFW events.
1. Slinky, Loose-Fitting Black: Black is definitely a Fall favorite as far as palettes go… But this year’s Fall 2014 NYFW shows featured black in some compellingly sexy silhouettes. A dominating trend was loose-fitting, lounge-y, strappy tops, and wide legged or loose-fitting bottoms. Many designers played with sheer paneling to keep things spicy. Definitely worth watching out for in stores when you start looking for some new day-to-night pieces.
2. Fall Floral Prints: Florals are usually associated with Spring fashion trends, but this Fall 2014 NYFW featured a slew of black and white and colored floral prints. Maybe it’s a reaction to the polar vortex, this burst of lightness and springiness in darker colors or fabrics… Peter Som played with sheer fabrics to break up more demure silhouettes, but the lovely flower print in black, white, and a touch of poppy kept it fun.
3. Liquid Gold: Shiny gold fabric has the tendency to look a bit too “Las Vegas Strip” or like cheap clubwear… But the gorgeous liquid-gold skirts and tops at Altuzzara prove that with the right design and outfit, even bold metallics can look elegant and chic. Gold was everywhere at NYFW, even in unexpected places like shorts and woven into the models’ hair. In order to keep it classy, pair your bold metallics with a more conservative look, or make it an accessory to an fun, printed outfit in the form of a clutch, barrette, or sandals.
In addition to these trends, keep an eye out for these other trends we saw on the runways: Fur Details, ’90s Minimalism, Sherbet Hues & Bold Colors, High Contrast Blacks and Whites, Pure White looks, and Sporty Chic silhouettes (like jumpsuits, crop tops, and wearable sets).
